2014 BET Awards announce nomination list, Predictions inside!

The 2014 BET Awards announced their list of nominees for this year’s awards today and it has to be one of the most competitive years in BET Award history if you ask me! Image

The award show plans on airing on June 29th on BET.

There are a lot of new names on this list however, it is extremely difficult to select a winner for most of the categories just because of how close they will be.

Beyoncé racks up five nominations this year as well as being nominated twice for the same award, Video of the Year, with Drunk In Love and Partition. Beyoncé is also seen under the Best Female R&B/Pop Artist category against Rihanna, Janelle Monae, Jhene Aiko, and K. Michelle.

Also at the top with five nominations is Jay Z and Drake.

Check out the full list of nominees with predictions underneath featured categories.

Best Female R&B/Pop Artist
Beyoncé
Janelle Monae
Jhene Aiko
K. Michelle
Rihanna

Bm6z4zmCUAA0qLhThis year any award that Beyoncé is nominated for, she has earned. You’ve read what I said about the Billboard Award nominations, Beyoncé surprised everyone with her 2013 December surprise album that sold over 80,000 copies in just 3 hours of being ONLY on iTunes. Now, with an upcoming tour with hubby Jay Z after going on a solo worldwide tour, this truly puts Queen B at the top, and I would be offended for Beyoncé if they awarded this award to anyone else on this list. UPDATE: After not attending the Billboard Awards, I don’t know if that’s because Billboard was upset Bey didn’t attend the awards, but come on, this is BET. I would really be offended if Beyoncé did not win any awards even if she doesn’t show up. -DT

Best Male R&B/Pop Artist
August Alsina
Chris Brown
John Legend
Justin Timberlake
Pharrell Williams

This is where the difficulty clicks in. You have Justin Timberlake, who put out 2 albums this year and a very successful 20/20 tour, Pharrel Williams who has the entire world singing along and dancing to “Happy”, and John Legend who got into everyone’s heart with “All of Me”. All around these artist all have had their share of the spotlight, however, if we are looking at the big picture, Justin just might deserve this award. Let’s just hope Chris Brown doesn’t win, since he obviously cannot show up to the award ceremony anytime soon. -DT

See why Chris Brown cannot attend the BET awards here!

Best Group
A$AP Rocky
Daft Punk
Macklemore & Ryan Lewis
TGT
Young Money

Macklemore… and I say this sadly… -DT

Best Collaboration
“I Luv This,” August Alsina feat. Trinidad James
“Drunk In Love,” Beyonce feat. Jay Z
“Hold On (We’re Going Home),” Drake feat. Majid Jordan
“Holy Grail,” Jay Z feat. Justin Timberlake
“Blurred Lines,” Robin Thicke feat. T.I. & Pharrell Williams
“My Hitta,” YG feat. Jeezy & Rich Homie Quan

This is a category Jay Z will win, whether its with Beyoncé with Drunk In Love or it is with Holy Grail with Justin Timberlake, both of those songs slayed 2013. -DT

Best Male Hip Hop Artist
Drake
Future
J. Cole
Jay Z
Kendrick Lamar

Jay Z, Kendrick Lamar, Drake, I would predict for this, however, with the BET awards, you never know who will get a rap award. Ever. (Flashbacks back Macklemore at the last BET awards) -DT

Best Female Hip Hop Artist
Nicki Minaj
Iggy Azalea
Eve
Angel Haze
Charli Baltimore

I am also interested to see who will take the Best Female Hip Hop Artist award. It can be only between hip hop regular Nicki Minaj and new girl on the block Iggy Azalea. Iggy brings something unique to the hip hop industry and a lot more people are recognizing who she is as she makes a name for herself finally in the states. She has been at the top of the charts for a while now however, it doesn’t make this category any less interesting. And whoever wins this, expect Twitter to blow up afterwards. -DT

Video of the Year
“Drunk In Love,” Beyoncé feat. Jay Z
“Happy,” Pharrell Williams
“Fine China,” Chris Brown
“Worst Behavior,” Drake
“Partition,” Beyoncé

Beyoncé will either be sharing this award with her husband Jay Z, but my personal opinion is that Partition gets this award. With a story line inside the video, the vibe, the sounds, and how well it works with it’s video, the visual image inside of Beyoncé’s head played out perfectly on the screen. Partition gets this one. -DT

Video Director of the Year
Benny Boom
Chris Brown
Collin Tilley
Director X
Hype Williams

Best New Artistariana-ellen
Ariana Grande
August Alsina
Mack Wilds
Rich Homie Quan
Schoolboy Q

It is all about Ariana Grande! She is the best new thing to happen to music in the last (AT LEAST) 5 years. And being at the BET awards will definitely be an experience for her.-DT

Best Actress
Lupita Nyong’o
Oprah Winfrey86th Annual Academy Awards - Arrivals
Angela Bassett
Gabrielle Union
Kerry Washington

AHHHHHH!!!!! This is one of the closest categories as well, Lupita has become America’s sweetheart, however Angela Bassett and even Oprah (the guilt I feel for saying Oprah is a lessor in this case) have nothing on Scandal’s Kerry Washington. Kerry Washington is one of the most loved actresses when it comes to the TV/Movie category of the BET awards. -DT

Best Actor
Chiwetel Ejiofor
Forest Whitaker
Idris Elba
Kevin Hart
Michael B. Jordan

It’s all about Kevin Hart. -DT
