Adults Arrested for their YouTube video to ‘Happy’ Now Free
6 adults have been released after posting a homemade cover video to the internet’s favorite song at the moment, Happy by Pharrell Williams.
The release of the adults could possibly have something to with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani‘s tweet saying, “Happiness is our people’s right. We shouldn’t be too hard on behaviors caused by joy.”
Check out the video the newly released Iranians posted to YouTube,
In the video above, you can see woman appearing fashionable, with long curly hair, and men dancing together simply being Happy ending the video with a message saying, “We enjoyed every second of making it. Hope it puts a smile on your face.” That’s the last thing that was on Iranian officials face’s as 6 Iranians have been arrested for being a part of the video.
If you don’t know, in Iran it is illegal for a woman to appear without a veil. If you thought that was a little extreme, get this: It is also illegal for men and women to dance together.
An Iranian police chief reportedly said, the video was vulgar and offended public morals.
Pharrel even took part of the #FreeHappyIranians hashtag (started by Iranian radio host Kambiz Hosseini) posting a story of the incident saying, “It is beyond sad that these kids were arrested for trying to spread happiness.”
Iranian Police Chief Hossein Sajedinia even went as far as to telling reporters, “Our dear youths should try to avoid these kinds of people. Like actors, singers, and these kinds of problems. Try to avoid it.”
The teens say all they wanted to do was to end the way other countries see Iranians. They are regular happy people too…
