“It is with great sadness that I announce the death of my mother, Joan Rivers,” Melissa Rivers said in a written statement Thursday afternoon. “She passed peacefully at 1:17p.m. surrounded by family and close friends. My son and I would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff of Mount Sinai Hospital for the amazing care they provided for my mother. [Melissa and her son] have found ourselves humbled by the outpouring of love, support and prayers we have received from around the world. They have been heard and appreciated. My mother’s greatest joy in life was to make people laugh. Although that is difficult to do right now, I know her final wish would be that we return to laughing soon.”

Back on August 28, I reported that Joan Rivers had went under cardiac arrest during a surgery on her throat in New York City. For the last six days, Rivers has been in a medically induced coma at Mount Sinai hospital in New York.
It was just 5 days later that her daughter Melissa Rivers announced that her mother had been put on life support. Since then, an investigation has begun by New York health officials at the Yorkville Endoscopy clinic, NBC 4 New York reported.
Joan Rivers was an actress, TV show host, mother, grandmother, and a legendary red carpet critic. She will truly be missed.
