It’s the show that was just the beginning for music reality television shows such as The Voice, X Factor, and America’s Got Talent. FOX‘s iconic American Idol plans on returning for a 15th and final season, according to an announcement from FOX that comes two days before it’s 14th season’s finale.
Every season since 2003 the show has averaged more than 20 million viewers, providing a platform to some of music’s biggest names. (Kelly Clarkson, Jennifer Hudson, Carrie Underwood, etc.) It’s highest peak was back in 2006 with close to 31 million viewers.
Idol was not only the top rated non-sports program, it was also the top rated show on television for eight seasons.
Now, it is no secret FOX’s rapid success lies with Empire making it much easier to dump Idol all together.
Jennifer Lopez, Keith Urban, and Harry Connick Jr. (right) will return to the judging panel for the final season which I’m sure will be full of surprises and former contestants coming back for dramatic performances.
