Whether you like the title or not, Spike Lee’s Chi-Raq film is on its way and is set to be released on Dec. 4th, 2015.
The film is inspired by a Greek comedy Lysistrata and highlights Chicago’s gun violence. A narrator begins the promo bit by saying, “Homicides in Chicago, Illinois, have surpassed the death toll of American Special Forces in Iraq. Welcome to Chiraq”.
The theatrical trailer features guest stars such as Chicago native Jennifer Hudson as well as, Samuel L. Jackson, Angela Bassett, Dave Chappelle, Nick Cannon, and John Cusack.
For some reason I expected this film to be more of a documentary, and not a scripted dramedy full of actors. However, that does not disappoint me, just expected it to be more of a news-type movie. The trailer has me anticipating this upcoming film more than I was before I watched.
Amazon Studios is calling their first Amazon Original Movie [Lee’s] “greatest, and definitely his boldest, film yet.”
