‘A Dog’s Purpose’ Viral Video Begins Outrage and Protest; Director Responds [VIDEO]

This is just wrong on so many levels.

Yesterday, a disturbing viral video was released by TMZ showing workers on set of ‘A Dog’s Purpose’ forcing a german shepherd that was resisting to get into rushing waters filming a dangerous scene. Shortly after that, we see that same dog drowing underwater and the workers are all rushing to save the dog. It’s really bad, the dog clearly does not want to be doing what they are forcing it to do. Take a look for yourself.

The video has outraged many for what appears to be an inhumane act on that poor dog, whose name is Hercules.

Usually we don’t have issues like what we see here because movie sets with animals are monitored with workers from the American Humane, an organization that ensures the safety and well being of animals used in film and TV productions. They’re the one’s that are handing out the ‘No Animals Were Harmed On This Set’ seal to films that meet their polished criteria.

Yes, there was a rep on the set of the upcoming movie set to be released in theatres on Jan. 27, 2017. And yes, that person has been placed on administrative leave now that an investigation has been put in place.

“American Humane has reviewed the video and we are disturbed and concerned by the footage. When the dog showed signs of resistance to jumping in the water, the scene should have been stopped. We are placing the safety representative who on the set on administrative leave immediately and are bringing in an independent third party to conduct an investigation into this matter.”

-Statement to media from American Humane

Producers are telling us something different that what we see in the video. Amblin Entertainment and distributor Universal Pictures say production followed rigorous protocols to foster an ethical and safe environment for the animals. They are reviewing the edited footage, but they are sure all dogs were shown great care.

“On the day of the shoot, Hercules did not want to perform the stunt portrayed on the clip so the Amblin production team did not proceed with filming that shot,” the team said in a statement. This is probably why we see the video cutting into a different scene where the dog goes under water.

Josh Gad, who plays the voice of the dog that is shown is the video, has released a statement on Twitter saying after watching the video he’s ‘shaken and sad’ about the incident. Here’s his post:

Many people have pledged on social media that they will no longer be seeing this movie after seeing the video. PETA, animal rights activists, is saying being terrified on set in NOT ‘A Dog’s Purpose’ and is calling for a boycott of the movie.

People are also harrasing the movie’s Facebook page destroying the movie’s legacy in the comment section before it’s release. They’re now showing any mercy… no for real, they are hella going in.

I bet this is NOT what directors invisioned that this would occur weeks before the release of the film they’ve been working on for some time now. This is DEFINITELY going to affect their ticket sales in a dramatic way. No doubt in my mind what so ever.

If you do still care about seeing this movie, here’s the promo video trailer here.
